About Us
Hello there, I am Natalie a Mom and Dental Hygienist up here in Washington State. I started my career in oral health as an undergraduate studying Archaeology. I fell in love with all things teeth in my skeletal analysis courses. I was astounded by what we could learn about the deceased human and the human's body, lifestyle, age, etc. just from the teeth and the oral structures that remained. I had to know more, so I asked to shadow in a orthodontic office in my small college town. That orthodontic office eventually hired me and I worked there for the next four years.
That first experience in a dental office setting was was what sparked my passion for oral health. I completed my degree in Anthropology, took two years to complete pre-requisites for dental hygiene school, became a Registered Dental Hygienist, and took my first job in a periodontics office. After a few years at this job, I was asked to teach Periodontology courses at my Alma Mater. I gave a reluctant yes (only because I was intimidated by public speaking!), but found that it was a natural fit and I absolutely love teaching. I have been fortunate to teach in nearly all of the labs and clinics in our department over the past 10 years.
Throughout my career, I have always been horrified by the excessive use of chemicals and single use/throw away culture in dental settings. My students tease me about my "hippie" ways, but I truly believe that if we know better, we must do better. It was out of this personal mantra, that I decided to start a safe, sustainable lifestyle brand: Boco. At Boco, we are creating and introducing a better way to practice dentistry by going back to simple, basic ingredients in our products and packaging those products in simple, basic, sustainable ways. And the best part is that it does not cost more, it just costs a willingness to do better in our corner of healthcare. I am so grateful that you have found Boco and are considering supporting us!
